I am having problems keeping the accerlation above 2500rpms, the engine was running fine yesterday while boating all day then out of the blue the engine started to deacceralte on it's own with the throttle in open wide position and would not accerlate at higher rpm's? When I tried to open the throttle all the way open the engine would not would go into higher speeds, it would be basically stay below 2500 rpm's and would not go any higher.

They always work, until they don't.

I'm not sure I understand your problem.

Poor acceleration over 2500, won't go over 2500, need more information.

As with any motor, it needs three things, compression, ignition, and fuel.

Basic troubleshooting, start with a Compression test then test the spark with an adjustable gap tester set to 7/16 inch, looking for a bright blue snap, anything less is a problem. Repost and we can go from there.

Once you prove the motor mechanically sound and the ignition capable, then you can move on to fuel. Start with cleaning/rebuilding the carbs and fuel pump.

After reinstalling the carbs, follow the directions spelled out in the factory service manual to set the linkage adjustments to the exact procedure in the manual.

No magic, it will work.
