Can someone tell me how to remove the fuel filter bowl on my 1998 Yamaha 200. The bowl is soft and hard to get a grip on . Anyone have any tips ? ? ? ? Thanks bob.

just grab the plastic bowl with a large pair of standard pliers and unscrew it. the bowl is made of some pretty rugged nylon type material and is not really that delicate. clean the bowl and screen, check the O-ring, add a drop of oil to the O-ring and threads, screw it back on by hand so you don't cross-thread it, then tighten a bit with the pliers, run the motor to check for leaks. I think I have the same filter on mine. I tried to twist it open after looking at the manual and seeing that it simply unscrews but it feels like I am going to punch my finger through the side of it if I grip any harder. The 17 year old plastic feels weak. There is a silly hex nut plastic bolt shape molded into the bottom of the bowl but my socket slipped with no force.

I am curious how you make out. I blew air through mine to make sure there was no obstruction and left it at that for now...

my filter bowl seems fairly strong, but I've thought it might be a good idea to buy a spare one just to have in case it cracks during removal. of course, all plastics seem to degrade over time and if yours is 17 years old it may be time for a new one. I have a fuel/water seperator on my transom so I guess I could just eliminate/bypass that old fuel filter under the cowl, but maybe 2 filters are better than one?
