With an antenna you WILL get what you pay for. Not to say that there aren't better more economical antennas than shakesperes.
Just keep in mind you can make a marginal radio sound good with a good antenna, but a top shelf radio will only sound marginal with a marginal antenna.
Also altitude is your friend with and antenna. VHF is line of sight. Higher is better.
