Hi
I am piddlin' around with the reverse lock on a 78' Merc 80 HP. It has the plastic style of revese lock.

Anyone know what the default postion the cam should be in relation to the shift rod in forward gear?

I checked my WONDERFULL Seloc manuals and they don't touch on the subject.....two manuals covering I don't know how many different years and HP's and not one word.

Re: 80 HP Mercury reverse lock setting

With the lower unit shifted to FWD and Just getting ready to shift to Neutral, the reverse lockout rod in the center section should point to the middle of the ramp in the shift cam.

Such that, as soon as you shift into Neutral, the very top of the shift cam blocks the reverse lockout rod from springing down. Which keeps the lockout hooks wrapped around the tilt pin in both Neutral and Reverse.
