Just wondering,can I replace the forward gear without replacing the pinion gear.
Trying to omit doing all the backlash.
(Didnt know if they have to be replaced at the same time due to wear like bearings and races)

Any help would be great

Hi,

Well....You will have to do the backlash anyway.
From the picture it is a little had to tell but it looks like you pinion gear is bad anyway.

Pinioon and shaft HAVE TO come out to get to the Forward gear, then you will know if you need a pinion or not.

Backlash MUST BE checked when changing EITHER pinion or Forward gear, unless you want to do it again soon when your new gear wears prematurely.

Pinion depth may remain the same but Forward gear bearing race may need reshimming. Won't know until you check on reassembly.
