Default can i fit a 9.9 carb to 1998 8hp evinrude 4 stroke, need more from the 8hp

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and would be very grateful for some advise, I have a 1998 4 stroke 8hp evinrude and would like to know if I can get more power from it, I use it on a 2.7 dinghy but I’m going upgrade to a 3.2 so was looking to get a 10-15hp but would love to keep this engine. I know you can fit a 15hp carburetor on the 9.9 models can find any info for the 8hp.. . . thanks Robert. UK River Medway

you are talking a 2 stroke carb on a 4 stroke motor, seriously doubt it would even line up.

Is it not a restricted 9.9?

easiest way is to go to http://shop2.evinrude.com and compare part numbers, particularly the carb to intake gasket. There is a 4-stroke 9.9, but I'm not sure that it is the same powerhead as the 8.
