merc starts, runs, then if I stop....no spark

I have a 2003 galaxie that has a 4cyl merc (GM) motor. I believe it is a 131 or 181 CI. It starts fine when cold. I can run it forever as long as I don't stop the motor. Once I stop the motor I cannot restart it for hours. I changed the coil, dist cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. It still does the same thing. Dealer told me it was because I had a backup battery connected to it. I think this is bunk (after 300 bucks). I did notice that once I disconnected the oil pressure sending unit and it started only to sputter and die again. Does the oil pressure sending unit have a kill switch on it like small engines?

any help would be appreciated!

You might repost this in the I/O forum.

That motor likely has an electric fuel pump. It will be conected to the oil pressure sender, for safety. The starter solenoid curcuit should override the oil pressure switch and energize the fuel pump. You might check this.

I assume the choke is not stuck shut?
