1992 30 hp evinrude just did waterpump and now

hi, i have a 92 30 hp evinrude. i just did the water pump and now i have a problem. i did it just like the manule said. everything went fine put it in the barrel and pumped water like a champ. used the boat and came home put the ears on to flush it and as soon as i turned on the hose i had water comeing out of the top fill plug. bad fill plug washer but, how is the water getting into the lower unit through the water pump. did a seal fail?

ok, just droped lowerunit again and i dont see what i'm missing.

try pumping the lower unit up with air pressure Liston for air coming out around the seals or use soap and water should be able to find your leak that way.
