is there a product out there to put into a fuel tank to stop a leak without takeing the tank out

not a chance you want to take. If it's a rust spot, there is more than likely a much larger rust spot getting ready to turn into a much larger more dangerous leak. i assume it's an i/o boat with a tank under the deck?

its a 17 ft back country and the tank is under the deck. i'll have to pop the top off to get to the tank

you can wait for a second opinion if you like, 'cause i'm no expert. but i don't think that there's a safe way to do this without removing the deck. Best case scenario is you fill your bilge with gasoline that you dump in the water, leaving a lovely rainbow trail right up to you, and your leaking boat. that's a bill you don't want.

worst case...'nuff said.

Curt, There is an epoxy product that you can mix up and dump into a empty tank, to seal leaks. I have never used it, however. if you have any oil in he tank, I would doubt it would work. Also, I would think the tank would need to be bone dry.

Can you cut the tank into pieces to remove it, and install a replacemnt tank somewhere else in the boat?
