Hi all,
2004 Mercrusier 5.0 EFI (sorry, don't have the serial # handy).
Last year I had to rescue a guy and his family after they flipped their tin boat while pulling a tuber (gotta wonder what, if anything, he was thinking!). Had to pull in his overturned boat at idle....took about 30 minutes.
Ever since, when the engine is cold, it has a fairly severe surge at idle. Even after running for 5 minutes at the dock, you are pretty much guaranteed a stall when shifting from neutral. Don't know if the surge and the extended period at idle are related, but it is the only thing I can think of that we did out of the ordinary at the time the surging started.
If you can get it into forward gear it seems to run fine. After a 10 minute run up the lake, the idle seems fine....no surging at all.
I changed out the plugs and the fuel filter...put in fresh gas, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Any other suggestions for easy to check things before I search out a mechanic?
Thanks.
