Default 4 cylinder Yamaha 90?

A guy tells me he knows of a 2001 90 horse 4cylinder 2 stroke Yamaha. This particular one has a jet on it.

I wasn't aware that Yamaha ever made one of these. Can anybody tell me anything about it? Reliability? I'm guessing it would be heavier than the time-tested 90 triple?

thought I'd post on here and see if anybody could tell me anything about it.

I'm looking to replace my 60 triple merc jet with something that has a bit more jam.

thanks!

90HP Yamaha's are triples, the 4 cylinder models are V-configuration, maybe your friend is thinking of a Mercury motor. A 90HP Yamaha jet would give you about 75HP at the pump. I've had a 90HP Yamaha since new in 1999 with no problems whatsoever, but i do take good care of the equipment...costs too much not to. Good Luck!

Maybe your friend was saying "4 cylinder" and he meant "4 stroke" ...I believe they make the jets in 2 stroke 90HP and the 4 stroke 90HP...you could check with Yamaha on that.

well, he says it's a factory yamaha jet (all grey), 2-stroke, 4 cylinder, and 90HP powerhead, around 65 at the jet. I believe he's mistaken, because I don't think Yamaha manufactured a 4cyl. 2-stroke 90HP powerhead, but I'll just have to wait and find out. This guy's a mechanic and he knows what he's talking about, but I think he might have something mixed up.

must have his "strokes" and "cylinders' mixed up. the 2 stroke Yamaha 90 is for sure a 3 cylinder motor.

just checked Yamaha and their 90HP jet drive is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke. they may have made a 90HP 2 stroke 3 cylinder at one time. Tell your buddy to go to Yamaha Outboard Motors and check it out.
