This followed me home today. It is a stripped 16' Super Sport hull with trailer ($200) that is in need of quite a few things. The guy I got it from told me he had rebuilt the deck and installed the carpet but then just neglected the boat.

Upon arrival at the new home my Son decided to peek under the carpet (he just ripped it up).... what a pleasant surprise.... good solid plywood but it is 15/32". I am considering various options at this point. Since the wood is in good shape there is no evidence of it being sealed up. I may drill out the rivets and remove it just to seal it and gain access to the inside of the hull.

This will allow me to properly seal the wood and use gulvit as needed on the hull. It will also afford me the chance to check the flotation

I have to install everything.....lights, windshield, steering, mount my motor, but this will all follow the paint and sealing.

Let the fun begin!

Kewl Bob looks like a good starter :D. I would remove the deck myself ( just to insure you dont have aftermarket stringers ) :D. The Deck in my jupiter as you know had been replaced and was plenty solid 3/4" I am glad I pulled it out though and found the  aftermarket stringers. I am off to Napa now to see if they have the closed end rivets I want to seal all the holes from the stringers .

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

If they add to the thread I add them to the list ;)

Yup considering pulling the deck and maybeadding on an additional 1/4" sheet of exterior laminated right to the top of it. I am undecided. I have a huge supply of 18oz fiberglass heavy cloth which I just may use instead.

And of course to add to the turmoil..... it is pouring rain here AGAIN

I am not fortunate enough to have a man cave (garage) to work in  I guess I should get to work listing my Nassau on Craigslist.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Bob its raining here as well and no luck at Napa on the rivets so no gluvit this weekend . I did get my zinc chromate and vinyl paint and most of the paint for the outer hull ( Sunrise red for the sides and bottom and white for the top :D. I have a garage but to much crap to get the boat in it :(. I also picked up a can of gray spatter paint for the side compartments that were carpeted :D.

I have three in the yard (listed one on CL) and actually my wife was pretty good about it.... she did make one comment.... I am not allowed to complain about her two addictions..... Coach purses and shoes :p .... it's a good trade off. ;)

I am about 2 weeks ahead of you on my starcraft - I would like to mention that the factory floor was 1/2 inch -some folks go to 3/4 but I replaced mine with 1/2 and it seems to work fine.

I have a 1981 ss160 that I am setting up with a 9.9 for a restricted lake - I am in the painting stage now and its starting to look very nice.

Good luck.

Well I'm glad that the forcast here in Va is dry for the whole holiday weekend and I finally got a chance to paint my hull.

Never cared for a garage (coming from NYC and all) until I started this boat project.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Break in the rain :)

Got out and did a bit of shop vac work and removed the leaves and debris.... bagged up the carpet.

I am probably going to drill out the rivets and pull the deck. The PO had big holes cut for ???? maybe seat pedestals but I was unable to feel or see any foam.

The carpet glue seems to come up real easy so, I will strip that.

The decking is sound just not sealed.

Bob that deck does look pretty clean, do you plan on re-using the same ply and just seal it?

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Yup.... just going to clean the carpet glue residue off it and then seal it up.

The tough part of cutting is already done so I will drill the rivets out and pull the sheets. I am going to re-foam under the deck and install aluminum plates to support the seat pedestals I have.
