Default 1992 Mariner 115hp new prop-now reverse grinding

I replaced my prop a short while ago, prior to changing props everything worked well other than my speed that I was needing and expecting. So I changed props and the following day I heard a noise when putting it in reverse it sounds as if it grinding or not going into gear like it should. I am not sure if this is coinsidence(sp) or if it has something to do with me installing the new prop.. Ok to answer some maybe questions 1) yes it is a merc/mariner prop with all the correct specs 2) yes I did install correctly(according to instructions and salesperson)

The only thing I can think of is, when taking the old prop off I did NOT take off the BIG WASHER on the back, sorry I can not remember what it is called(brass and thick looks like a double washer). I didn't use the new one, I used the one that was currently there, I then greased the splines, slid the prop on then the lock washer and then bolt down. Let me know if this has happened to anyone else and if so what can remedy my problem. I can usually run with out reverse....but it is a good motor and I would like it to run as it should, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You must have the proper thrust hub behind the prop or it will grind the lower unit housing out.
