How hard is it to work on the lower unit?

I want to check out my clutch dogs and possibly switch the forward and reverse clutch dog.

I have a manual, but it is not with my boat. Do you think I can just tear into the lower unit and make the switch? I'm fairly mechanically enclined and have the seal kit.

Get a manual. It is not difficult. I did a seal kit and took all the gears out of mine for inspection. Everything looked great with no wear on the clutch dog.

You can easily do without a manual, but the tips you get from a manual will cause a lot less grief when you are up to your elbows in grease and you don't know why or can't remember how a small seal goes in.
