I have a 9.5 Johnson that I am trying to ID in support of getting parts. I think the model number is J2559249; at least that is what I read on the little round tag/plug. This is the same kind of plug that I got a good ID off of on a Merc I also have. Is this a the right place for the Johnson? Is this a good number and if so, what year is this motor and how did you figure that out. I don?t see that number or anything close to is when researching the obvious resource sites. I think this is a 65 model but would like to confirm and learn.

Raymond.

No that is not the model number, I do not think it is even the serial number.

The model numbers and serial numbers are or a plate on the transom bracket
You can see the plate, near the top LH corner, in this picture of a 6hp Yachtwin

Sometimes but not always the model number is also on a core plug on the engine (it is in this one but I do not have a photo)

MQ-10, -11, -12, -13, and -14 are the model numbers of 9.5 HP Johnsons from 1964 to 1968
