When I fire up my engine and put it in reverse it kicks into gear but it makes a god awful grinding noise, but when you but it in forward you don't hear the noise, If anybody has any tips please help me out.
Thanks
Jason

Hello and welcome.

Is you idle to high. If so it will be hard to shift.

If your idle is fine it's important when shifting to shift firmly and not slowly.

If you try and shift too slowly it will grind.

I figured it out I had to adjust my shifter cable back towards reverse a little more cause it wasn't going into reverse all the way. now I shift evenly between forward & reverse. So I'm going to take it to the lake on Tuesday for a test run. She runs good in a 55gal. barrel of water so we'll see
Thanks

Having to readjust the shift cable is the first sign that your cable is stretching and in need of replacement.

Now it is not shifting quite so fully into BOTH gears. As the cable stretches more (and it will) the problem will re-occur.

Change the cable, it is a LOT cheaper than changing the shift slider and either gear that you are GOING to round off the engagement dogs on.
