I have a 1990 Chapparel 1900 4.3l alpha one, I removed the outdrive to replace the bellows as the driveline bellow was leaking, had a large hole in it, no rust at all on the drive line and very very little milk in the outdrive oil, but I am worried about the gimbal bearing, it has inward/outward movement of about 1/16th of an inch and side to side movement of about 1/16th of an inch, does this need to be replaced? it sounds/feels like it has no grease at all in it, feels a little rough, I could not grease it tonight as my grease gun took a chit on me, so the ? is should i grease the crap out of it and then see what it feels like when turning it? and is the inward/outward,side to side movement ok? thanks in advance for any help!

should rotate smooth with no grinding noise or rocky noises replace it, if your bellows was leaking, your gimbal is shot
