Default 16 foot pontoon boat

I'm looking for a smaller pontoon boat for fishing and general cruising for my wife and myself. Needs to be trailer easy. Saw a few 16 footers and some of them are 7 feet wide also. Looks like a good package. Besides being smaller than the standard pontoon, what are some major drawbacks to a 16 x 7 footer with about a 50-75 HP engine?

Sounds as if a 16 footer will work for your needs.

There are no major drawbacks to a 16 footer compared to other pontoons for your use.

It will be a little less stable and the weight distribution will be more important but again should fit your needs. Just make sure you don't have too much forward weight.

Good luck with the fishing and cruising.

no real drawbacks for the use you specified...but, i had 16 footer and it always seemed like my 2 person cruise (my wife and i) turned into a 6 to 10 person cruise once friends found out i had a pontoon boat. At that point, it was simply too small and unstable for that big of a group. As long as you're sure its just gonna be you and the wife (maybe another 2 to 4 friends) you'll be fine. If you think you might find yourself with a sudden rush of new found friends due to the aquisition of a boat...go a little bigger. My 16 footer pulled just as easy as my 20 footer did. This is just my opinion, but one that may be worth thinking about. The people here on iboats.com are great and have helped me greatly in my short time here....good luck with your search for the perfect toon'.

Happy Boating
