Default (New here) 86 2550 restore project..

Hi, I just aquired an 86 2550 designer I think, as it has the radar arch?
Anyway.. I want to replace the Gunel Molding as it is beat up fairly bad.
Where can I buy the rubber and the track? Also, it is riveted to the boat. I have leaking going on all along this seam. Can I remove the track? Preffered method?

The rubber dash area is cracked up a bit. Is there a rubber coating I can buy to apply to restore this?

I will need to replace the starboard side blackened pointed window, any ideas where I can get a replacement?

I have been hard at work with the buffing and polishing and am very happy with the results. I plan to remove all the pinstriping as well. For some reason on the boats I have seen this done to like mine, it seems to update the look.

I am sure I will be lurking here more and more as this project consumes me, so I hope to meet a few fellow bayliner fans with the same types of projects!

Thanks!

To replace your rubrail there are many sites on the web or pretty much any marine purveyor will carry it - here's my personal favorite:http://www.tacomarine.com/

Removing the track is pretty straightforward. Simply drill out the rivets and replace with the same or use SS screws. Do remember that the screws that are presently there secure the hull to the superstructure. Best just to leave them alone.

Can't offer you much help on the dash. I suppose you could strip and redo it.
Post a pic of it.

If for some reason you want to restripe here is a good place to find them, along with a lot of NOS for Bayliner parts :http://www.greatlakesskipper.com/

Good luck with your project. Try and get some pics up so us nosey guys can take a look.

Lots of places carry new rub rail, but, be ready for sticker shock.

As to the dash top (black area) I see a lot of them that are cracked due to sun damage. In fact I don't think I've seen one that isn't cracked. The best repairs I have seen is to sand it down, paint, and re-sand to smooth it out and then give it a coat of clear UV protector.
