Default Mariner Magnum 40's--1 yr apart Stator Swap Questions?

I have two mariner magnum 40's. Motor 1 serial number 0D94913. Motor 2 serial number D069324. The latter is the better motor and I think it is a 1991 and I think the first is a 1992.

The second motor did not have a stator with it, previous owner removed to replace and never did. Motor 913 has a stator (black) and from what I can tell the part numbers are the same according to diagrams. As a matter of fact the trigger and power pack are also the same.

However, there are differences in the electrical boxes. Both motors have tilt. motor 913 has a voltage regulator in the lower right corner of the electical box with 2 red, 2 yellow, and a gray wire coming out of it--as my manual diagram shows.

Motor 324 does not have a voltage regulator in this position but instead has a second solenoid there--I am assuming for the tilt motor. It also has a harness connection just above this that I am sure went to the tilt motor

A couple of questions. Where is the voltage regulator supposed to go in motor 324? I see no other room in the box Did they all have one?--thinking it had too--could it be missing?. Where is the second solenoid in motor 913?

All I really want to do is take the stator from motor 913 and put in on 324. I would be glad to email pics of the two boxes to better show what I am horrible at explaining.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default Re: REVISED Mariner Magnum 40's--1 yr apart Stator Swap Questions?

Made a mistake in my first post. What I am calling a second soleniod is actually a voltage regulator I think. My first motor, number 913 has a large box with a circuit board and yellow epoxy filling with the wires going into it sealed into the box. The screws on this box are vertical 1 on top, one on bottom

My second motor--the one I want to put the stator on--number 324 has a smaller black module. The mounting screws are horizontal, one on each side.

OK now that I am closer. There is one post marked + with on red wire going to it. There is one post with no wires on it but has a yellow dot on the end of it. I am assuming this is where my two yellow stator wires will go--correct? The last post is not marked in any way and I have a lone gray wire that I am assuming goes here.

The stator currently has male/female connections to the lareger style voltage regulator. I am assuming that I need to change these to ring eye connections to work with the different style regulator.

On a last note, what is the difference? Is one style better that the other? If so should I take the best type and put it on the motor I am going to run? I will still be glad to send pics.

Thanks again,

Allen
