I am not sure where to start with this. I have a 1996 50 HP Johnson. Last week I went fishing for 3 hours and it was fine, in the evening I went back out and the motor wouldn't start. I replaced the spark plugs and went out yesterday morning for a couple of hours, the motor ran OK. Then last night the motor started OK but a little while later my water temp light came on. The water coming out of the motor wasn't hot but you could smell the motor. Shut it off, let it cool down and when I restarted it the motor bucked when I put it in forward. Any suggestions on where to start?

Wild stab but any chance you might have fish line or rope wrapped around prop shaft between prop and housing. Could cause excessive load on engine, and would be hard to see without removing prop.

Good luck and good boating ya'll
