I just purchased a boat that has Mercury 90 saltwater. How do I know if it is two stroke or four stroke? How do I get a manual for this motor, I was told it is a 2006.

Swallow your pride and ask the man you bought it from.

I would ask him, but he is dead, that is how I got the boat and motor. Sorry for the question.

I think in 2006 the 2-strokes had the "Optimax" logo on the side of the cowling.

As far as manuals, some general sporting goods stores that sell boats have them, a mercury dealer would certainly have them, mercurymarine.com perhaps, or you can try your luck on e-Bay.

Re: Motor Idiot

The serial number, found on the clamp bracket, run by a Mercury dealer would yield the complete build details on the original motor.

Otherwise, pictures would help, as would pictures under the cover.

hope it helps

Re: Motor Idiot

If the cover says OPTIMAX or does NOT say FOUR STROKE or EFI FOUR STROKE it is a two stroke motor. Otherwise, start it up and blip the throttle. If it goes "ringa ding ding ding" it's a two stroke. :)
