I have a 1991 Mariner 150 Mag. II that has had the voltage regulator removed. This was before I acquired the engine. The SN for the engine is 0D007837 which calls for a large voltage regulator PN 18736A21. There is a small rectifier located on the rear top of the engine that should not be there by what I can determine via the wiring diagrams. My question is, if I install a new voltage regulator, should I remove the rectifier?

The system puts out approx 16.7 volts without the votary regulator and I suppose this is harmful to the battery.

Thanks,

Re: Mariner 150 1991

I suspect that the stator was also changed out to a 16 amp, or else it would blow the top off'n yer battery in short order. The flywheel also would have been changed to the 16 amp.

Is there a pattern of bolts on the top of the flywheel? If so, it's a 16 amp. If that's the case, it won't hurt your battery as long as you keep it maintained. It will use some water.

If you need the 40 amp system, you can buy a used 40 amp flywheel, and get a CDI dual regulator conversion kit with the stator and regulators, as well as some harness components.

hope it helps
John

Thanks, it does not seem to cook the water out of the battery, but I will keep an eye out. I will also check out the flywheel.
