40 hp johnson

i have a 93-40 hp johnson, had the carbs rebuilt. went out on water motor stallsand shuts off in neutral, went back to mech. he said it was not a carb problem. he ad vanced timing, now it sounds worse,and now is knocking or pinging. what is going on?

your idle speed was probably set too low. i don't think you mech is a certified Johnson Tech. you timing needs to be reset properly, link n sinc and idle speed set. are you mechanically inclinded?

your timing is 19 BTC, so using the above procedure you want to read 15* BTC.
