(Ser #OC197945 1989 Mrec 150xr4)I bought the boat 2.5 years ago replaced the pump after a year (replaced b4 i bought it) checked the t-stat housing and it just had a restrictor washer, all was well no overheat issues. The start of this year I got in some bad mud while catchn bait, motor ran close to 200 by the guage lots of mud pissn out the pehole got out of the mud, water peed clean again temp came down "WOOHOO". We went 10 miles out with no problems. Due to being O.C.D. I decided to put in both t-stats n change popit valve. When I put in the stats the discharge water was real hot 140 dugh!!. The flow varied due to open n close of stats. B4 I found this site I quickly decided to change w-pump didnt think the water was comn out good enough, any way I also decided to alter the water flow to the way I have seen posted on this fourm (its the same as my SELOC manual). One water hose 2 port head 2 w/h to starbord according to Merc shouldnt have done that. I figured if some one took the stats out they may have altered the water flow. Now the question 4 u, does any one have or know where I can view a "photo" of the proper water hose routing. Scematics' are great, but a picture is worth a thousand words (like this post haha). I changed the hoses as mentioned and disconected the water outlet from the top of the motor going to the popit valve sending the water from the popit via "T-conector" straight to the piser. seems to b ok just wanted to ask 4 again a "Picture"
Thanks

Put it back to stock, thermostats in.

Pisser should be 140 degrees and intermittant until it thoroughly heats up, then 140 steady.

Merc knows a hellova lot more about the motor than the moron that put the washers in the t-stat housings. For one thing, it's a steel sleeve motor, and if it don't warm up quick, you'll stick it punching out from the landing.

hope it helps
