My 1993 Jonson 115 is leaking gear oil between the prop and gear housing. What parts do i need? and can I repair this myself?

Welcome to iboats.

Are you sure it is lower oil?

If oil is coming out then water is certainly getting in, have you drained the lower to check the oil, if you have a bad seal it will be milky looking instead of the nice honey color.

Alot of times some unburned fuel and oil will come out at the prop, if the oil is black that is probably what you are seeing and that is normal, if it is actually lower oil that seal can be replaced but if memory serves it can be a bit of a pain to do.

Oil is black. I ran it Friday about half the day in salt water.
Upon return I cleaned boat. ran engine in driveway whith fresh water connection, and a muffler on propellor for about 20 minutes.
Next morning there wa about 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons of oil on driveway, with trail leading down rudder.

If it's black, it's unburned OB oil, not gear oil. Check the gearcase for water by draining some gear oil.

The black oil is probably just the unburned mix draining down through the exhaust - that's normal.

BTW, Worn out gear oil also turns black. It would only take a minute to open the fill plug and see what drains out, just take the lower slotted plug out long enough to get a small sample in a jar and put the plug back.
