Default 86 mariner 75hp idle

the motor is rough to start, it starts when i idle it up and choke it, it will run strong afterwards. every time i shut it off for a short period of time i need to still idle it up and choke it even after its still warm. after that ill put it in foward... the idel will drop and it will stall... not everytime though. im messing with it at my house with the ears. i have a spark stop adjustment screw, a throttle stop screw and finally a idle stop screw.. there is another screw or bolt w/e on the spark stop lever mid way down smaller bolt then the rest... i turned that bolt out to get it to idle a little higher...but what does that actually do? should i use this to idle it up a little more? my problem is that i need to actually move the idle up once it is in gear if possible... idle in neutral is ok but i still need to throttle it up to get it running after its warm when im out on the lake.. i have been a small engines mechanic for a long time... i just dont know jack about outboards... got the boat/motor used had to replace lower unit... other then that when im out on the lake and the motor is running.. it runs good

Your motor sounds like it's running pretty normal...

I have to choke and idle up when cold starting also.

I also have to idle up after it has sat for more than 30 minutes.

Stalling while putting it in gear isn't fun and you can try to change that by adjusting your 'idle stop' screw.

I had to increase the idle speed with the screw enough so that it wouldn't stall going into gear, but also wouldn't clunk the gears becuase the rpm's were to high.

You might need to adjust your carburetor idle mix screws out to help with the rough start.
