We have a 305 228 hp mercruiser in our 1979 Formula. It does not seem to have much power getting out of the water. After planing (which is tough) it will run for a bit at wot and then just die out. Most of the time it will start right away after it dies and sometimes it has to sit a couple of minutes.IT IDLES GREAT. Can go all day at a VERY LOW SPEED. When the issue happens there in NO FUEL in the filter. I have changed the fuel lines, filter, water separator, spark plugs and distributor cap. My thoughts are it may need a new fuel pump or there is junk in the tank gettting sucked up. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

definately check for clogs, but it's most likely a fuel pump.

Found a third fuel filter did not know existed! Had pieces of debris in it. Lets see if this fixes the issue. Does anyone know what the gas tank is made of in a 1979 thunderbird formula & how to get to it?

Yep, that seemed to fix the issue. Looked like sawdust in the inline mesh filter. Hoping that it is not pieces of the fiberglass gastank! Not using ethanol anymore that's for sure!
