I purchased a 2002 Four Winns Horizon 180 with Volvo Penta 4.3 ( carburated ).
I have absolutely no history on this boat as I got it from a charity auction (donated item). Engine is somehow rusty, but it starts well. On a first lake test run, the starboard manifold overheated and all ruber parts melted on the exhaust on that side. Changed all of that (belows, gaskets, etc.), and cleaned the manifold and riser. The little elbow that brings the water to the manifold was completely blocked with rusty sediment.
Second test run no overheating, but the engine itself runns cold 110 max. It also missfires at higher rpm's, but runs smooth at idle. The block and heads are cold to touch. On muffs water exits the exhaust, and the gases look and smell "normal".
Question: 1. where should I look for the reason of engine overcooling? 2. Are the overcooling and missfiring related or separate problems?
Please help!!!!!
