New to boating and I have a 2002 Glastron GX185. It is a 4.3L Volvo Penta with the SX drive. I am wanting to find out the proper size and pitch prop for this boat. Thanks for any help.

Welcome aboard jt!!

Take a look at the sticky above ^^^^^ that will get you the basics of prop selection and then we can narrow this down. Do you have any information from whatever was on there last?

My 2004 GX185 4.3 carb 190 horse at 6,000 feet-14.25 X 19 pitch OEM prop, Volvo part number 3850301 does 42.8 mph at 4600 rpm. Turning point hustler aluminum 43.4 mph at 4600 rpm. A 3850300 17 pitch at altitude does 38.7 mph at 4900 rpm. So, at sea level a Volvo 21 pitch will give you upper 40's on speed and still hit max rpm and pulling power for water sports. You could use a 23 pitch, which was stock, for long distance cruising.

I have a 14 1/4x 21 and a 14 1/4 x 23. Maybe not a huge difference but the 23 was pretty beat up when I bought it and need to replace it as opposed to getting it redone. The 21 is brand new.
