Recently blew my motor, and ended up buying a short block. I've been breaking the engine in but noticed a big difference in take off and top end RPM's. So far the break in should be complete, but overall The engine sounds great, starts great, but feels weak in my opinion. Mech says it still needs more break in since Compression was 59-65 on all 6 cylinders, and it had Amsoil synthetic it takes awhile longer. So continued to break in motor, So at this point I've ran 36-40 gals of gas 25:1 JohnRude Oil Mix through the motor with breakin by Johnson usermanual, Comp tested again 59-62 on 5/6 cylinders closest cylinders and 78 on Lower Right cylinder, but today's boat run, boat was running 30-40mins vary 3500-5000RPM's pulled cowling off and put hands on thermostats not even hot. While running I'm hearing a ticking sound, Can't tell if from motor or water hitting motor. I did replace the VRO with the new block with an after market VRO with no oil injection since I mix it in tank and replaced the fuel line/primer bulb/fuel filter, So does it sound like it's still in break in period? Will Compression increased as the piston rings expand with break in time or is their something else I should be checking.
