I have a 1979 Mercury 9.8 HP 110 thunderbolt outboard engine and one of my Stator coils cables broke while changing the Power pack. There is a big Orange magnet that I beleive what it is and under that is the stator coils. How do I remove the magnet with out damaging it. I remove the housing where you pull to start the engine. Then I remove the nut at the center and mark it with paint so I can put it back where it was. I tried hitting it up with a rubber hammer and that didn't help. HELP PLEASE.

Suggest you get the right service manual for your serial number motor. I like Mercury or Seloc both on ebay or from Mercury direct. Parts list from Mercury is very good to have too.

A steering wheel puller from an auto store, & a plumbing strap wrench will get your flywheel off. To avoid damage, do not bang on your flywheel. Need to use a torque wrench to put back on properly.

Good luck and super little motors!
