Thank you in advance for helping. ok here is what i have.

I have a 80-90s 48 spl johnson outboard that is clean on the inside but one of the cylinders is not so smooth.. i am told it is a 2000.00 fix, my question is can i replace the sleave on my own and get the motor running again? how much would the 48 spl be worth if i just sold it in this condition? or (see below)

2nd question is this: if i can't salvage the 48 spl, i bought a used 1977 70 hp johnson outboard and am being told that it shakes pretty bad when it's running but runs great.. i havent' started it yet but will soon, can i use the parts off of the 48spl on the 1977 70 hp? like the starter, flywheel, fuel filter, solenoid, etc..?? the 70 hp has rusty parts on the inside but the controls that were attached to the 48 spl seem to line up ok on the 70 hp.

here is the problem, i have a boat and 2 motors and need to get one of them up and running.. i need to go fishing.. the steelhead are running here in the NW and i am itching to go..

i am somewhat mechanically inclined.. please help..

thanks again for any advice.. i am sure i will have more questions..

best,

Jake

here is the problem, the 48 is 2 cylinder, great motor, the 70 is 3 cylinder, you may find some parts that work, but most will not. you can compare here. http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f

you are talking about a complete tear down, not to be done without and Johnson OEM manual, outboardbooks.com. sure if mechanically inclined and can read, and look at pictures, you can do it your self.

as far as the the 70 is concerned, you need to do some trouble shooting on the motor, basics to start with compression and spark check. the rough running, could be as simple as some standard maintenance. carb rebuilds, link in sinc.
