Rinker 242 fiesta vee cruising rpms.

My boat is a 2001 w/ the mercruiser 260 hp 5.7l efi, bravo 3. I have had conflicting opinions on cruising rpms. I was told by the previous owner that they cruised and 3500-3700 rpm, my buddies all have told me that I should be cruising around 4000-4500. Who is right? I am new to this site, any help would be appreciated.

I am guessing your buddies don't own boats?? you should be cruising in the 3000 - 3500 range (you'll hear and feel the motor running smooth but not too hard). Your max rpm is around 4800 so cruising all the time at 4000-4500 will have you at the gas dock A LOT, not to mention the unnecessary wear on your boat and motor. your cruise speed on that boat is generally 25 - 30 mph. hope this helps
