i just purchased a project boat,,,a 65 traveler atlas 16 foot with an 80 hp evinrude selectric,,,i pulled the bottom end off and found a hose or electrical cord running down into the bottom end,,,it is attached up in the motor,,is this the electric wiring for the bottom end,,,,,also how do i detach it so i can replace the impeller,,, i cant pull the bottom end far enough out to slip the impeller over the shaft,,,,,any help would be appreciated,,thanks tom

Careful with that wire. They don't make them any more and when they last did, they were very expensive.
1. Disconnect the wires at the top end. There are knife connectors covered by rubber sleeves. Slide the sleeves up the wires for access to the knife connectors. Then just rotate them similar to the blade on a pocket knife.
2. Remove the diamond shaped plate from the side of the midsection.
3. Feed the cable down and out through the hole
4. You will see another plate behind the first one. Remove the bolts from it and pull it off the cable. It is a tight friction fit.
5. Tie a string to the cable to assist in reinstallation, then remove the lower unit.
6. When you reinstall it, put some oil on the cable where it pulls through the second plate.
