My tachometer is acting up on my '92 120hp Force. It has worked (sort of) in the past. This season it just jumps all the way up to the max rpm, when I'm only at about 1/2 throttle. It seems like it's reading correctly at real low rpms, but as soon as I accelerate it just goes up to the max. It's not a real major issue, other than it would be nice to know actually what rpm's I'm running.
No problems with any other electronics on the motor (or in the boat) for that matter......any suggestions??
And of need be to get an new tach, any suggestions as to where to buy one would be nice, too....no luck on the internets.
Thanks

Check to make sure the purple wire on the engine block is tight and in good shape. An intermittent connection will be accentuated at high rpm where vibration is higher. If it's not the wire, then search for 20 pole tach. There are aftermarket tachs out there. Just be sure it's 20 pole.

This place has a good assortment of 20 pole tachs. Type in 20 pole in the search box.
