my boat wont start after changing manifold gaskets

I have a 1987 omc 4.3L I had water in the oil and changed the manifold and intake gaskets, I also changed the water pump and termostat because it was overheating, know it wont start and the negative and positve on the battery are getting very hot that smokes comes out off them while i try to start it, could some one help?
