went to look at a 1997 legend boat, with a 200 mercury on it. i dont know a whole lot about it yet. its parked at my father in laws and belongs to someone he knows. we ran it just for a second until the hose adapter broke. after shut down smoke kept coming out a small port next to the water pump outlet. when i blew into the hole it forced the smoke out a port on the bottom of the foot. the motor only ran for about 4 seconds when i shut it back off because of the adapter breaking. anyone know what that smoke is? it slowly wafted out for about 2 minutes. also does anyone know of any issues with late nineties mercury 200s?

Re: smoke AFTER shut down?

If it was properly stored, it had fogging oil in it. Startup can be hard on the neighbors, especially if they have laundry on the line.

hope it helps

If it has been winterized with fogging oil it will smoke like CRAZY for a few minutes..... the fogging oil keeps every thing good to go between summers... if it was real white smoke then it probably was fogging oil and that it a good thing! At least you know the guy stores the boat properly....
