Current draw for a Merc. 25 HP 2004

Hi and Help my new to me ( 2004 25 HP 2 stroke Merc ) has had its starter cables spliced for a bildge + and when I tried to start it the electrical tape started to smoke. Does anybody know what kind of cranking amps this motor draws?

I would like to find a connector suitable for the application not a self tapping screw that was used.
