I have a 7.5 hp merc. It's been sitting for 10 years, took it out of storage
put new spark plugs in it, and a new water pump. mixed up some 50:1 fuel for it then put it in a barrel of water. Started on the 8th pull ran decent untill I shut it off. Has not started since. Has 120 psi compression in each cylinder
plugs get wet. Has spark, but looks weak. Will not fire if gas is sprayed into
cylinders. Replaced point insulators, cleaned points, gaped, replaced low and high speed coils. Any help would be appreciated.

It's a 1973, ser. no. begins 349 and it has thunderbolt ignition

Whoops! Just saw that you replaced the pluggs. Maybe it's a weak coil or bad spark plug wire? Just guessing. Just for the heck of it, replace the pluggs again. I have had bad plugs right out of the box. Good luck

Re: merc 7.5hp weak spark

It's a two cylinder, and both cylinders show weak spark. Even when I put the old plugs back in it, it's the same. I thought if it was an ignition coil or wire it would not effect both. I was thinking about it. Maybee the ignition module is bad.

Thanks for the reply Karl Childers

The condenser does not have continuity through it. Thats good right?

Much appreciated
