trim trouble

i have a 1988 invader with a force 125 motor and am having some trouble with my trim only working in one direction.when i first got the boat the trim was fully functional and we took her to the water and at the end of the day she wouldnt trim up.i got to the house and started looking for wire trouble and found one of the breakers inside the motor was popped i reset it and it worked for 2 or 3 tries and from then on i can only trim up and not down.
i noticed one of the 2 bosch relays inside the motor was clicking when i tried the failing side of the trim,so i replaced the relay but that did not fix the problem.wtf.and it seems when i switch the wires from the 2 seperate relays around the opposite side will work ie if the trim is workin up and not down ill switch the relay wires and then down will work and not up.so both sides are functional when when hooked up to the active relay.i am at a loss of where to look to fix this problem both relays are fine and the problem seems to be somewhere other than in the relays.any advice will be greatly appreciated.also i would like to know if this is a common problem, and if adding in a transom switch to the loop will help or hurt the existing problem thanks i boaters

Re: trim trouble

Yes! Replace both. Both relays are at default fround when neither is energised. One relay is at default ground when the other is energised. Reversing the energised relay reverses the motor direction. If either is bad, then the trim motor will not work in one direction.
