Volvo 5.0 Fuel Flooding

I'm trying to resurect a volvo 5.0 fuel injected engine that hasn't ran in about 5 years. I did all the normal stuff like new gas, oil, and plugs and got it to start up. Now the weird thing is I had to unplug the low pressure fuel pump to get to run. When I plug it in it dumps fuel into the intake manifold and kills the engine. When its unplug the engine is running normally and keeps on going. Any idea what is causing this?

Howdy,

I don't have a service manual open in front of me but,

It sure sounds like some sort of a cold-start solenoid stuck open.

Don't think there is such a thing but its a good thought and I'll have to double check it. Someone else also suggested that maybe the engine temperature sensor is bad which is causing the computer to dump the extra fuel for being cold.

Could be.

Your first action should probably be to get yourself a Volvo Service Manual. There's probably a trouble shooting section that would outline procedures to find a problem such as that.
