Default 74 Mercury 1150 loss of fuel

Hi there. This is my first post on here. I just recently bought a boat with a 74 Mercury 1150 serial# starts with 376. First time we took it out (saturday) it ran great for about 5 hours, then started to stall. After putting it in neutral and then going again, it would run fine for a few minutes, but then if i tried to really open up the throttle it would start to die again. Anyway, we realized we were low on fuel, so we added fuel and it ran great on the way to the marina to get filled up until right before we got there, and then it died and wouldn't start. We took the fuel lines apart last night, and tested the squeeze bulb-working fine. I forgot to mention earlier that squeezing the bulb while trying to start after it died didn't help. After taking apart the fuel lines and checking for blockage, putting it back together, and spraying a bunch of carb cleaner while trying to start it, we got it going. Today we took it out to test and it ran great for 30 mins or so, even at WOT. Then had the same problem. Ran ok at idle, but opening the throttle up seemed to starve it. We made it back by spraying carb cleaner when it would start to die.

Don't know where to go from here. Should we go ahead and try to rebuild the carbs? Because it seems like we have good pressure up to the carbs. My best guess would be that when we ran it out of gas, some gunk got caught up in the carbs.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It could be you have air leaking into the fuel line somewhere at a connection. Also there should be a screen at the pick up line in the fuel tank. There is also a screen in the carb. I would check these first
