I have a 91-92 150 force. Craigslist engine.

Start, runs great, drive 5 minutes, overheats, didn't burp engine, smoking, has batt charge plugged into temp sensor on engine. Fries sensor. Dies.

Install new temp sensor. Engine wont start.

Ignition wired correctly.

Both switches tested / good.

Turning engine over gets good clean big blue spark from 1-5 cyl.

Spray a bit of ethanol, backfires once.

Still no start, 30 min later, more ethanol, no more backfire, 30 min later, more ethanol, no backfire, quit ethanol don't want to score rings.

Cover 3 carbs with palm of hand, gas dumps out all 3, not doing that again!

Pull plugs.

Cleaned spark plugs while they are all out of engine, find little carbon but on cyl 1 spark plug.

Pull head.

New head gasket, everything looked 99% carbon cyl 1, no carbon cyl 2,3,4, &5, all looks clean, tight, and good.

Pull voltage regulator.

New Voltage regulator. Smelt bad, was what was smoking, looked black. Still wont start.

Wait all night. Next morning, pump bulb for fuel line, spark on all 5 cyl, no start.

No start = wont backfire, wont hit 1 cyl, wont even sound like she's hitting at all anywhere, nothing pops, no backfire, just spins and spins.

I don't attempt to start for more than about 5 seconds, keeps starter cool.

I give up and burn the starter hot trying, still no start, back-off and try for only 5 sec at a time, allowing starter to cool down, so I don't burn up the starter.

Pull all 5 wires to sensor underneath flywheel, no spark. Plug back in, all 5 cyl spark.

Next day. Good spark on all 5, nothing pops, no backfire, just spins and spins.

My guess is this is the sensor. My reasoning is that if I am getting spark, I am not getting spark at the right time.
