Hi, New member. I just bought my 1st boat a 69 Laqrson Voltare 177 w/ a 67 Mercury Thunderbolt 1100ss. Had to fix so many things to get it running right and the boat also. Hopefully I fixed the engines stalling problems. It would die sometimes in the water when i put it in gearand was hard to start. Replaced the plugs, fixed the plug wires (corrosion) redid the fuel line. Rebuilt the control box (1 cam was broken) and lubed the cables. Also ended up rewiring all the eletric wiring on the boat as it was all corroded(i now have horns, lights, tach, etc.).
Anyway I have a question my boat engine in a tub runs at idle almost 2000RPM but in gear it runs about 1200RPM before the water is all thrown out then goes back to about 1800rpm. Does this sound about right. Before I messed with the card mixtures it idled about 1200RPM in the water but would die when I put it in gear and be hard to restart. In my tub of water it starts and runs easily and doesent die(though I do have to shut it off pretty quickly cause it emptys the water out very quickly in gear and dont have a chance to rev it up. Thanks Michael
Curious to hear from other Mercury 1100SS owners
