lower unit on merc lube help

1985, 75hp, 4cyl, ob merc motor. both the vent screw and the fill screw on the lower unit are worn and i am unable to remove without completely stripping the heads of the screws. any thoughts?? suggestions on how i can remove without breaking something else??

Beg, borrow, or purchase an impact screwdriver. Fantastic device that will definitely allow you to get those screws out. Be sure to replace those worn screws and seals with new ones.


ie. Hit the end of this tool with with a hammer and the tip rotates (CW or CCW). They're not expensive.

almost anywhere you can buy tools.....just make sure its turning the right way by pushing it down on a bench top...you usually turn the bit end to make it change from clockwise to counter-clockwise.
