i have a 99' merc xlefi with new water pump and the thermostats are good brand r new temp sensor in head. here's the problem while running the boat the engine runs great but after about 5 mins the temp light comes on and motor shuts down to idle speed. the water coming out of the pisser is warm not hot but the heads are to hot to touch so maybe someone with knowledge can help me out please?! why is the light coming on and shutting down to idle speed what am i overlooking to keep me from doing some serious fishing and boating?!
