Default Oil mix ratio for 4 hp Evinrude????

Hello again,

Some may recall my recent post regarding the purchase of a 4hp evinrude (E4REIA - 1991), which has seen VERY little use. In fact, it has not been used since 1993 and looks like it. As such, I've ordered a water pump kit, all O-rings, prop seals etc. in the bottom end.

I'd like to confirm the oil mix ratio for this motor. I do not have an owners manual, and have seen the general rule of 1:50 from the evinrude website. Is this applicable to this motor? Also, due to the low use of the motor, I will follow break in procedure and double the oil for 10 hours.

Thanks again for your help,

Dave

Hold up there!! First congratulations on the motor, I'll bet it's sweet. I wish I could find an equal. Very little use. 50/1 TCW3 is the right mix. I didn't see ( don't remember) your prior post but you shouldn't be changing prop seals unless they are proven leekers. Just makes no sense to me. You don't need to double the oil mix but you do need to spray some oil into the cylinders prior to pulling the rope due to the fact they are likely very dry after sitting all that time. You won't be sorry to get a manual and you will be sorry if you don't. I get them from eBay. Don't get the cd manuals make sure they are original OMC service manuals. There is at the top of this forum a TOP Secret File that will tell you what you should be doing to a motor that has been inactive. Here is a link to the parts break down for it. Enjoy, and best of luck. Rick.

Edit: just noticed the link to you p-post. That is a great looking motor for sure. Your a lucky man to have it.

Thanks fo the good advice Rick. I will save the prop seals for a rainy day and just replace the water pump and O-rings. I'll also head your words and spray/inject a bit of oil in the cylinders before starting. I'm in the process of finding shop manuals for both my motors.

I agree that I found a great little back-up motor and can't wait to give it a whirl.

Dave
