i have a 1975 40 johnson. it will start up and then act liike it is not running on both cylinders all the time. when it misses the motor shakes and shoots water out forceably of where it is supposed to come out (i cant remember what it is called) and then striaghtens up then it does it again and again until it stalls out. im thinking of takeing it in and have someone look at it but if you can tell where to look and check. i would be greatfull. oh and another thing i took the spark plugs out and they were black and had noticable amount of gass on the threads of the plugs. and the threads of the motor which some of it dripped down in the opening where the plugs go.
