I have a 20' Sun Tracker with an '02 Merc Bigfoot. The prop that came with the motor is chewed up a bit and I would like to use it as my backup. I have no idea how to spec what size or pitch to buy, so I'll leave to those in the know. What prop will give me the best performance for this boat?

Please read the stickies at the top of the page. Also would be good to read the helps at the iboats prop store page. You will understand a little better about prop selection. If you get back to us with as much info as possible especially Prop size(usually on the barrel or under the prop nut)max rpm and speed.
HVACHILLBILLY -- when you tell someone what you were told, please provide ALL of the information. You said your engine would overrev with the 10P prop and that the prop was a three blade. I told you that a pontoon specific four blade 14x11 from Mercury would be closer to what you need.
JEEPMAN -- without some specifics as to what diameter and pitch prop you have now (damaged or not), and the wide open throttle rpm (what you see on the tach -- not what the engine is specified at), there isn't much we can tell you. Read the sticky titled READ THIS FIRST.

I DID read the sticky as well as searched the forum for the answer BEFORE creating the thread. I gave you all the relevent info that I have. The boat was purchased over the winter without the motor and with damage due to a roof collapse, which is now repaired. The motor was purchased from an independant certified Merc mechanic. The motor was previously used on a larger pontoon boat and was traded in for a more horsepower. The prop, which is a 3 blade aluminium, likely was the same one used on that pontoon, but this cannot be confirmed. I cannot tell you what the numbers are on the prop as it is at the cottage, nor can I tell you what the RPMs are as I have not run the engine on this boat yet. I plan to put her in the water this weekend. I plan to purchase a new prop and use the old one as a spare. If I am going to buy a new prop, I would like to get the best one suited to this boat. I am looking for the one that will give me the best overall performance in relation to top speed , cruising and holeshot.
